The damage this species does is apparently similar to that of R cornuta. R salicis occurs on many willows in both Europe and Japan; the specimens identified as this species in North America were found on imported nursery stock. They could well be this or some other European species, but American specimens identified in the past as R salicis do not compare exactly with European specimens identified as salicis.
