Steck reared this species from root crown and stem galls of Englemannia peristenia collected in Bastrop Co., Bastrop, 6.v.1977 and 4.v.1985 and from root crown galls of Wedelia texana in Travis Co., Austin, 14.iv and 4.v.1985.

Galls are 5-9 mm. in diameter on S. jacobaea, and are nearly round to just irregular swellings on Ratibida as reported by Felt (1940). Usually only one gall is produced per plant. Reared E. angusta from Senecio sylvaticus and from the upper part of the root crown of S. jacobaea. Galls on Chinese aster and Senecio sylvaticus are reported as stem galls; the galls on the other host plants are upper root or crown galls.

This gall was found about 60 cm above ground on the woody stem of a large plant of Senecio sylvaticus L. The only record from S. jacobaea occured when 9 flies when reared from galls on 7 of 15 plants collected Oct. 8, 1969, near Fort Bragg. All the galls made by the larvae on S. jacobaea were on the upper portion of the root crowns and frequently on one side where the feeding usually killed a few leaves but did not seriously injure the plants. However, 1 gall was at the top center of a root crown, and on this plant, the larval feeding killed the growing tip above the gall and then the whole plant. Galls measured 5-9 mm diam.
