Euura sp

Host: Salix scouleriana

Euura sp. attack the axillary buds of S scouleriana. Oviposition begins during the first week of July and can last for up to 2 wk. Galls are initiated by injection of colleterial fluid during egg deposition by the adult female and consist of undifferentiated parenchymatous tissue that provides resources to the developing larvae. Approximately 7-14 d after oviposition, eggs hatch and, we assume, pass through five instars for males and six instars for females, as in another Euura species. From the second week in October to the end of November, late-instar larvae chew an emergence hole in the gall wall and drop or crawl to the ground, where they spin cocoons and overwinter. They remain in the soil over the winter months and emerge as adults the following summer.
