Hawaii is not on the Gallformers map at this writing, but the most serious consequences of the introduced Klambothrips myopori are its effect on Myoporum sandwicense, a native plant of cultural significance that is also an important structural and biological component of Hawaiian forests. By contrast, in California, Myoporum is an introduced ornamental that is to at least some degree invasive. That said, removing and replacing severely galled Myoporum ornamentals has imposed a burden on landowners and governments.

ID note: Pulling open the curled leaves of a galled plant will sometimes reveal the adult thrips as well as nymphs.
