The larvae of Ametrodiplosis menthae Plakidas are found actively feeding in the unopened flower buds of Mentha arvensis from late July to early September[.] All larvae drop to the soil to pupate and produce two or three generations per year. I have also collected Contarinia sp. larvae from these galls so it is possible that the Contarinia sp. is the gall maker.
