Nearly all observations on iNaturalist of this species are fuzzy galls in the Pacific Northwest. To our knowledge, no sources in the literature indicate this species is fuzzy, and its reported range (see Gagne 2017) is limited to the northeast US. Further study may reveal that these are in fact the same species, but it may also indicate multiple species with distinct morphologies in the two regions.
